Chaat Bites

The baked sweet potatoes work wonderfully as a base to make these healthier chaat bites. This could be a fun make-your-own appetizers/snack for any party. Serve with variations of toppings, the possibilities are endless.

Ingredients
  

For the base:
  • 2 long sweet potatoes (similar sized)
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
For toppings:
  • 1/2 red onion (finely diced)
  • 1/2 tomato (finely diced)
  • 2 tsp coriander chutney
  • 3 tsp mixed namkeen (optional)
  • a few pomegranate seeds
  • 2 tsp greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp sriracha or hot sauce (optional)
  • Chaat masala

Method
 

  1. Thoroughly wash the sweet potato and pat dry.
  2. Cut about 1 cm thick slices.
  3. Preheat the oven at 200°C.
  4. Add the olive oil, garlic powder, red chili powder and salt and coat well.
  5. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and spread the sweet potato slices a few centimeters apart from each other. You might have to bake in batches.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes on one side, then flip and bake for another 10 minutes on the other side.
  7. Take out from oven and arrange on a serving dish. Wait for a few minutes to cool down before putting with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • To avoid your sweet potatoes being soggy, thoroughly dry them after washing.
  • You can prepare the sweet potato bites a few hours in advance before serving.
